1. Harry Angel Sprint

From Bob VK2AOR:

There is a contest coming up on the 6th May 2017 , The Harry Angel 80Metre Sprint with starts at 8:00 pm and finishes at 9:46 pm.  I suggest we gather at the clubhouse about 6 or 6:30 pm have a bit of a discussion and download the VKCL contest software which is free.  I have used it a number of times and it seems to get better and easier each time I use it.

It would be good for new people to have a go talk about the different ways of operating and get your feet wet with the aid of a good antenna and an amplifier, also the amenities of the club.    We could build a box with amplifier and splitter for headphones so a number of people could  listen at the same time to the one radio without generating to much noise in the shack.

Contest: Harry Angel Memorial 80M Sprint 2017.

Date Saturday 6 May  2017

Time 10:00 UTC – 11:46 UTC (8pm Local to 9:46 pm local)   it only runs 96 minutes so it is a concentrated contest should be plenty of stations about.

Frequency Phone 3535 – 3665khz.
CW     3500-3665khz   Double points for CW

There is also a SWL section.

Further info about rules are available from WIA, AR magazine and

2. Sota, Peaks and parksnparks operating

From Bob VK2AOR:

In the process of organising some club activities I would like to get an indication of how many people would like to get involved, please email me direct   vk2aor@bigpond.com.   I have spoken to Rod VK2LAX who is happy to do a talk about and participate in Sota/peaksnparks.    For Sota it seems to need a bit of preparation and notice given of an activation.   Parks and peaks is not so hard but would need to notify people to be sure to generate some contacts.

Tom VK2VC did a checkout drive of Bouddi on the coast at the south east  end of the shire. Found a good VHF/Uhf site and a good camp site/fire place for winter ops, high trees for hanging dipoles for HF.
Sota Lecture will have to be worked out with Rod for a suitable date for the lecture.  In the meantime we just go for a drive into the many parks and peaks  as there are plenty around the area, it is no longer just National Parks but now also reserves and state parks.  Let me know what you would like to do.

3. World Amateur Radio Day

Every April 18, radio amateurs worldwide take to the airwaves in celebration of World Amateur Radio Day. It was on that day in 1925 that the International Amateur Radio Union or IARU was formed in Paris by pioneers to support Amateur Radio worldwide.

Just two years later, at the International Radiotelegraph Conference, Amateur Radio gained the harmonically related allocations of the 160m, 80m, 40m, 20m, and 10m bands.

Today there is well over 3-million radio amateurs worldwide.

April 18 is the day for all of Amateur Radio to celebrate and tell the world about the science we can help teach, the community service we can
provide and the fun we have. A number of special event stations and at least one World Amateur Radio Day award is also available.
