Central Coast Amateur Radio Club News – October 5, 2025

The club rooms at Kariong are open on Saturdays from 10:00am. As always, members and visitors are most welcome.

Due to clashes in October, there will be no October business meeting.

On Saturday September 27 the club held a very well attended monthly show and tell. Items shown and discussed included vintage CB radios and linear power supplies, WW2 morse keys, a monster stud mounted SCR, and a home-brew magnetic loop antenna.

One highlight was a kerbside treasure a member found that turned out to be a fully functional PC built into a screen. Very nice display and ergonomics. It triggered much discussion about planned obsolescence, particularly with the introduction of Windows 11 and what your alternatives were.

A new feature of the event was some videos. We watched a very interesting video on World War 2 German direction finding equipment and it’s use, followed by a discussion on the theory of operation.

Next up was a video was on how to make reproduction knobs when restoring old radios; and the final video was on the steps you need to take to ensure retention your callsign following the introduction of the class license.

As of time of submission, all services at VK2RAG Somersby are operational except for the 438.8 MHz multimode repeater.

The Club’s Weekly net is held on Thursday night at 8:00pm on the VK2RAG 2m repeater – 146.725MHz with a 91.5Hz sub-audible tone, and on the HAM Echolink conference. It is also live video-streamed on the club’s facebook page.
