2026.07.25 Show & Tell
Last Saturday the CCARC held a Show and Tell event at our Kariong clubhouse.
Glenn (VK2GEM) kicked things off with an interesting presentation of 3 model variations of a classic American CB. He went through variations over a 10 year production period that ranged from crystal control to PLL 40 channels all whilst keeping the same outward appearance. Glenn’s research also revealed the cost when released and current market value. Radio’s really are cheaper today in terms of weekly wages. Thanks Glenn.

Col (VK2ZCO) went next with a home made collapsible ground plane vertical antenna. Of particular note was the way he bent the ground plane legs so that they folded up neatly for transport in a plastic tube. Good work Col.

Don (VK2ZCZ) brought along a portable 2 meter repeater and duplexer he built for WICEN emergency use. He described the features and construction including the special paint scheme to prevent it getting lost or damaged when deployed in the bush. As usual Don has taken great care and thought with this build. Thanks Don.

Alan (VK2MOM) gave a presentation of the use of the Esperanto language in amateur radio and his visits with Japanese Esperanto speaking hams. Lots of pictures and insight into the subject. Thanks Alan for an interesting presentation.

Graham (VK2GRA) was last with his recently completed HF “Go Box” built into a 19 inch 4U flight case. Club member Peter B. inspired the build with his own well kitted out Go Box. Continuing the theme, Graham gave a presentation on 19 inch rack mount history, standards and available equipment.

Thanks go to those who presented and attended what turned out to be an interesting event. Thanks also to Steve and Glenn who put on lunch.
