1. Bigger signals from “the Coast”

Seeing how many of the clubs advanced call members were filling in the ACMA licence variation forms to take part in the ACMA KW test at the club rooms today, I would expect we’ll be seeing some big signals around on the HF bands very soon!

It should be noted that the ACMA test is only for 18 months on certain HF amateur bands and should interference problem occur that are not immediately resolved, the privilege will be taken away.

The special permission is also only for fixed stations operating from the registered address of that station.

As most contest groups and clubs will have applied it should be interesting to see what happens in upcoming contests. As authorised by the club last year, I have already submitted the application for the club station VK2AFY at Kariong and the application was received on the first allowed day of March 1st. By the ACMA. We will now wait to see if we are approved. It is very likely that those stations running 1KW PEP SSB will be subject to inspection and all QSOs made using the higher power MUST be logged – since this is a requirement for ALL contacts when using a club call, this is not an issue for club stations such as ours. The variation is ONLY valid for Advanced licensees, which in the case of a club station means that an Advanced licensee must be present by the equipment at all times that it is being operated at the higher output levels.

For those wanting to know more, the information on the ACMA site is best accessed from the links on the WIA website at:

http://www.wia.org.au/newsevents/news/2012/20120222-1/index.php

Also as EMR questions need to be considered BEFORE submitting your application, VK3UMs calculator is a very useful tool and can be found here:

2. Next Wednesday open day at the club.

As Bob, VK2PEP is going to be unavailable over the next couple of weeks, the next Wednesday when he will open up the club rooms at Kariong from about 10am to 4pm will be Wednesday March 21st. As always, check the club calendar on the website for the latest status.

3. Next club Saturday BBQ date.

The next Saturday Bar-B-Que at the clubrooms is planned for Saturday 24th. March.
