THE PERIODIC NEWSLETTER OF THE CENTRAL COAST AMATEUR RADIO CLUB INC

ISSUE 12-09

In this edition:

  1. Upgrades to club IT environment.

  2. John Moyle contest 17th.- 18th. March.

  3. ATV tests

1. Upgrades to club’s computing (IT) environments.

Geoff VK2ZC has told me that he intends to replace the aging PC in the radio shack with a much more capable and modern system over the next week or so.

In the seminar room, the network switch located at the front of the room that connects the PC, the printer and any lecturers laptop to the network failed last week. Rather than attempt to repair the old unit, I have replaced it and its cable with a brand new unit which tests out OK and comes with a 3 year warranty from the manufacturer. The unit cost $17 including postage, these low prices are crazy, it’s not worth considering repairing old units when new ones cost so little!

2. John Moyle contest 17th – 18th March.

With the risk of sounding like a broken record, the next major Australian Amateur Radio contest is almost upon us and no one has confirmed any interest in taking part in the contest. Dave VK2JDH, Col VK2KCM, and Dave VK2JDD will be operating VK2EH portable at Mt. Allyn and have kindly invited other club members to come along.

Given the lack of interest I will not be running a local portable action, but I am still interested in the club entering from the club rooms – as the club call is not available on Sunday morning this will have to be a 6 hr. entry on Saturday afternoon / evening. If possible, we will try to put the beam back up Saturday morning, if not, we will operate just using the OCF dipole.

3. ATV tests

A reminder that Victor is still running his test transmissions on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm on the VK2RTG ATV repeater (output 444.250 MHz) and is eager to receive all reports of coverage before he upgrades from Analogue to Digital, so please let Victor know if you can receive the transmissions.
