1. ILLW site check.

Today (Sunday 15th. July) I went up to Nobbys Head Lighthouse at Newcastle to check what may have changed since the last time I reviewed the site some months ago. It’s ONLY 1 MONTH to the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend (ILLW) event 2012 so it’s the right time to check everything out and meet with the site manager from Live! sites Newcastle to make sure we are clear on all arrangement and safety requirements from their side. Here are a few photos that I took on a lovely sunny day – lets hope August 17th. and 18th. are the same but if not we’re inside (unlike last year). This year we are putting on a combined event with the Hwllinic Radio club (HARAOA) from San Souci but there’s still space to fit a couple more CCARC operators into the overnight team and all are welcome on the Sunday when the site is open to the public. As well as operating and getting the club call (VK2EH/P) on the air we will also use the event to promote light house conservation and our great hobby of Amateur Radio to the public – this will be one of the few opportunities this year that we get to present to the public, so I’d ask as many club members as possible to come along, even if you are not interested in operating you can help by talking to the public about the hobby. There will be a display from WICEN and is anyone able to put together a general display about Amateur Radio and the CCARC? We have plenty of rooms to use in the lighthouse keepers cottage.

2. CCARC HF Net

For the time being, I will not be running a HF net for the club. There are some members looking at different aerials for short range communications and with the season change into spring conditions may also change making the proposal more practical.

Thank you to those who have tried over the last couple of months and watch this space in a couple of months for our next try.

3. RD Contest update.

As there appears to be very little interest in the clubs participation in the remembrance day contest as I’ve had no one contact me about wishing to take part, I have decided that we will run this simply as a Saturday afternoon event. the contest starts at 1pm local on the 11th. of August and we will have the station available for operation until 5pm (or later if there are Advanced call, Linear trained, key holding, financial members that wish to stay and control the station).  I am a little disappointed at the lack of support but I’m sure it’s because you are all saving your free time to support the ILLW the following weekend!

4. Club Linear installed.

In good time for the RD Contest the club’s 1KW linear is installed ready for use!

5. Classified sales ads.

I’ve been asked a few times if we can advertise items for sale in the CCARC NEWS to which I have replied, yes, we have done it in the past, so I see no issue with that. Those times they have been specific pieces entered as a news item rather than in a specific section. If there are sufficient requests I am happy to put a permanent section in this magazine where we can list items for sale. The usual conditions apply of course – the CCARC take no responsibility for the state of items sold in this way, the CCARC NEWS acts only as a communication device to put the seller and prospective buying in connection with each other, the CCARC does not handle any of the money nor take any responsibility for transactions taking place as a result of the prospective buyer contacting the seller as a result of the “ad” in CCARC NEWS. In short buyer and seller beware.

To start this off, as I have just replaced an antenna I have the following for sale:

Second Hand: 2.5 year old Andrews ACS-X6000 2/70/23cm tri-band high gain vertical antenna.

  • Impedence: 50 ohms
  • VSWR: Less that 1.5:1

  • Rated wind velocity: 50m/sec (112.5 MPH).
  • Mast diameter accepted: 30-62 (1 1/5″ to 2 2/5″).
