1. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As we get back to normal after the holiday break, I’d like to wish all CCARC members a happy, safe and successful 2014 in everything you do.

Ed VK2JI.

2. On the air with Lions.

Given our coverage of amateur radio within the Rotarians organisation at the end of last year, it only seems fair to include this piece about an on air celebration from the LIONS organisation:

         Hunting Lions-in-the-Air

The event takes place on the weekend closest to 13 January, the birth date of Melvin Jones, the founder of the Lions organisation. For 2014, it will be the weekend of 11 and 12 January.

It will not be a contest but merely a means for Lions to exchange greetings with other Lions and Lions Clubs.

Radio amateurs and members of the various Lions Clubs get together and the Lions are allowed to exchange greetings with other Lions under supervision of the radio amateur. Normally the name and number of the Lions Club is the exchange.

Thanks to the Southgate news list for this item.

3. Summer VHF/UHF field day contest 2014: 11-12th. January.

This is the biggest of the three WIA VHF-UHF contests of the year. It is mainly SSB or CW using horizontally polarised antennas and ideally competitors stake out a high portable location.

If you have equipment for 6 metres and above you could go on to give some of the portable stations some points. Only direct contacts are allowed (use of repeaters is not allowed) and contest exchange is signal report, serial number and maidenhead locator code. Full rules are available on the WIA website here:

4. Last chance for Wyong Field Day traders.

Glenn has just sent out the following email to the few traders who have not yet confirmed their attendance at the upcoming field day.

Central Coast Amateur Radio Club Annual Field Day

 Hurry time is running out!

Just six weeks to go until the CCARC Wyong Field Day.

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time for you to think about your presence at the field day and get your forms in ASAP! This is the biggest field day in the southern hemisphere, so hopefully the date is in your diary so you won’t miss out on taking part. The CCARC field day is a great way to expose your products to the amateur radio fraternity and maybe add to your business base.  It is one thing to be on the internet but it is another to be at the heart of things and for people to be able to see products in the flesh before purchasing.  We have amateur radio enthusiasts travel from all over Australia and even overseas to take part in the day.

The 2014 Field day will once again be held at the Wyong Racecourse on Sunday 23rd February.

Further information and trader/exhibitor agreements will be available for download on the CCARC website ( Field day webpage )  If you have any questions please email through the link on our website at CCARC.org.au.

Looking forward to seeing you at this great event,

Glenn Miller VK2GEM Traders and Exhibitors Liaison.

5. Broke & fixed.

Nothing to report this week, everything running smoothly.

6. Reminders.
