1. WIA National Field Day – YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOUR PARTICIPATION (+ It’ll be FUN ).

April 13/14th 2013 – WIA National Field Day. I am asking small groups of members to go out and set up portable stations in public spaces around the Central Coast as part of the WIA National Field Day and also to celebrate the IARU International Radio Day (which is on the 18th). This is our opportunity to explain to Joe Public, what our hobby is, how it does good for the community and hopefully get some new members for the club.

Details of event:  http://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/nfd/

So far we have the following station locations planned:

1. Gosford Waterfront

2. Lions Park, Woy Woy.

3. Terrigal Haven.

(please refer to the “upcoming activities” page on this website for further details.

2. CCARC QRZ.COM pages updated.

In this day and age, when someone hears a call sign and they want to know a little more about it they will often go to the qrz.com website. As such, this is a great place for us to publicise the club and link these people back to our own website to know what is going on. I have just updated the clubs pages for VK2AFY, VK2EH & VK2WFD to include data about the participation in the upcoming WIA National Field Day and given the pages a general update.

There are also pages on qrz.com for our two repeater station call signs VK2RAG and VK2RTG.

3. Club Raffle – Digital TV set.

A club raffle has been started – tickets are $1 each and available at club meetings.

The item being raffled is a refurbished Dick Smith GE6807 66cm HD digital LCD TV. It has a built in DVD player and two HDMI connections.

The raffle will be drawn on Saturday 22nd. June at the club rooms.

4. Kilowatt HF Linear amplifier demonstrated at “Show & Tell” project meeting on Friday.

As promised Jim VK2LC brought his new home made Kilowatt HF Linear amplifier to this weeks projects meeting on Friday 22nd March and the construction was up to Jim’s usual high standard. Given the age of the valve (27 years +) there is a special way to (carefully) start up the linear amplifier to avoid the valve arcing across. Once the unit is “bedded in” this should no longer be a problem and is due to residual gasses in the valve that have accumulated over the many years in storage.
